Great GreenWay moments and legacies for 2011

Losing the funding for the GreenWay trail is a bitter disappointment but we should not lose sight of the great things that have been happening in the GreenWay over the last 12 months. The GreenWay is more than just a shared path. There have been some great GreenWay moments and legacies in 2011. These include:
GreenWay Arts: It has been a great year for GreenWay arts- the mosaic at Lords Road has been completed, and there has been a host of other GreenWay related arts projects including
Sketching the Gamut,
GreenWay Arts prize/exhibition,
GreenWay Blogspot and The GreenWay Playhouse,
Artcycle;
We have discovered 2 new bushcare sites being worked on by the community unknown to IWEG, at Weston Street and Loftus Street;
Leichardt Council have built a new bridge over Hawthorne Canal;
The Government is still committed to the biodiversity and bushcare components of the GreenWay;
We are making good progress with future governance;
We have a draft Active Transport Strategy;
The GreenWay Revegetation and Bushcare plan is completed and adopted by 2 Ashfield, Canterbury and Leichardt Councils;
Schools program successfully piloted in 3 schools and is going out to all primary schools in 2012
Website- we had 17,712 unique visitors over the last 12 months;
Festival
40 bushcare volunteers trained
The community has sent 300+ letters of support to government and 7000+ petitions to have the GreenWay trail built;
Over 500 people attended the GreenWay rally to protest about the cut in funding for the GreenWay trail;
200 people the I heart GreenWay Day of Action
The GreenWay Councils, Friends of the GreenWay and the community are united in their support for the GreenWay
