Congratulations to our Art Prize winners!

The winner of the 2017 GreenWay Open Art Prize is Jody Graham who has won a $5,000 prize package for her work ‘Drawn from Discarded’ (pictured above).


This year a record number of entries were submitted to this popular annual community arts event, which celebrates the precious urban green corridor in Sydney’s inner west. 

Inner West Council Mayor, Darcy Byrne announced the GreenWay Open Art Prize at the opening night of the GreenWay Art Exhibition on 2nd November, hosted by Art Est. Art School and Gallery, Leichhardt.


The $1,000 Local Artist Prize,  open to residents of the Inner West Council and City of Canterbury-Bankstown local government areas, was won by Sally Browne for her work ‘Bin Chickens – Once we were Sacred’.   The Cooks River Small Sculpture Prize valued at $2,000 was won by Hannah Rose Carroll Harris for her work ‘Your Other Half (Fracture #2)’.

The GreenWay Community Photography Prize (adult category) valued at $500 was won by Bekky Keong for her work ‘Continuum’ and the Community Photography Prize (youth category) valued at $200 was won by Madalena Lombardi for her work ‘Nesting’.

Selected (non acquisitive) works will be exhibited as part of an expanded touring exhibition starting at Art Est. Art School (2-14 November),  then touring to Seaview Gallery, Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design (20–25 November) and Bankstown Arts Centre (5-19 December).


Judges for the event were Vandana Ram, Director of the Bankstown Arts Centre; Rod Simpson, Environment Commissioner of the Greater Sydney Commission; Perdita Phillips, artist based in Perth and Nadine Schmoll, Ashfield Artist in Residence and Brisbane based environmental artist.


The GreenWay Art Exhibition is hosted by Art Est. Art School and Gallery in Leichhardt.
