The winners of the 9th annual GreenWay Art Prize awards were announced to a packed house at ArtEst Art School and Gallery, Lords Rd, Leichhardt on Thursday 8th November.
Prizes were awarded by Inner West Council Mayor, Clr Darcy Byrne, Jamie Parker MP, Member for Balmain and other GreenWay VIPs. Seven prizes were awarded and a further seven artists’ works were Highly Commended. Music played, food and drinks were served and a fine time was had by all!
"The GreenWay Art Prize provides a great opportunity to showcase our local artist talent - and to celebrate this precious urban green corridor right on our doorstep”, Mayor Darcy Byrne said as he congratulated the prize winners and finalists who’s works were selected for exhibition.
Opening Night also featured a poster display of planning and landscape architecture work by UNSW students, the inaugural GreenWay Street Library made by the Leichhardt Mens Shed and a flock of “bin chicken” (White Ibis) models “with attitude”, made by Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design students as part of a GreenWay Residency with local artists Alessandro Berini and Adam Galea.
