Ugrade work needed

2 April, 2014

IWLR opens - Marion St 5- 27 03 14GreenWay stakeholders will continue to lobby local and state government to
ensure the approaches to the light rail are safe and comfortable for
pedestrians, cyclists and light rail customers.

There's a lot more work which needs to be done to build missing GreenWay links along the light rail corridor and upgrade the public domain in the 600 to 800m walking catchments around each stop. Much of this work will fall to local councils working in tandem with the State Government.

Councils are doing their bit through the establishment of the GreenWay place management program and allocating additional staff time to respond to and facilitate the streetscape works being implemented by TfNSW and their contractors around the light rail stops over the next 2 to 3 months.

Here's hoping the State Government renews a spirit of cooperation, despite snubbing
all the local Mayors at the launch of the Light Rail on 27 March. It's in
everyone's interest that the light rail is a success and the GreenWay is
completed to reduce traffic congestion and increase cycling, walking and public
transport use in the Inner West.
