2017 Art Prize People's Choice Award announced

16 November, 2017

Congratulations to Kevin McKay who has won the Derivan People's Choice Award for his entry in the 2017 GreenWay Art Prize at Art Est. Art School. "Shopping Trolley - Cadigal Reserve Car Park' oil on board 59.5x42cm (pictured above).

"The Cadigal Reserve in Summer Hill marks the southern end of the shared Greenway path where an abandoned shopping trolley in the car park could be seen as a symbol for human consumption or substituting the individual who left it there. Its place between the nature reserve, the footpath, road, and railway, bridge reflects the real world challenge of building a sustainable city in which we all can live. Despite its utilitarian nature, the filigree of the shopping trolley grill is repeated in the fence, the railway bridge and the trees. This softness contrasts with the graphic hardness of the signage, road, and sky and may allude to a more phenomenological approach to living in a material world. "

Kevin win' a $500 prize pack from Derivan and a subscription to Art Almanac.
